Eyelid Surgery in Long Island

Long Island Blepharoplasty ModelEyelid surgery (clinical term: blepharoplasty) is one of the most powerful ways to turn back the clock on aging. The procedure zeros in on eyes that have prematurely aged and look unintentionally fatigued, sad or angry. The eyelids are very delicate, which is just one reason the operation should be performed by properly trained and experienced eye surgeons. If you are self-conscious of droopy, puffy or otherwise unattractive eyelids, talk to the TOC Eye® team today about your surgical treatment options.

Am I a Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?

The best way to determine whether you are a suitable candidate for eyelid surgery is to meet with an experienced surgeon for a full examination and discussion of your cosmetic goals.

That being said, eyelid surgery may be right for you if you have:

Excess skin that obscures the natural fold of your upper eyelids

Loose skin on your upper eyelids that hangs over your eyelashes and droops into your line of sight

Puffy upper eyelids

Fine or wrinkled skin on the lower eyelids

Bags and dark circles under the eyes

If any of the items mentioned bother you, schedule a consultation with our doctors to discuss the surgery in more detail.

Surgical Details

Eyelid surgery is generally performed on an outpatient basis in an office with local anesthesia. You can go home shortly after surgery. Depending on your specific surgical plan, the procedure may take as little as 45 minutes.

The surgical incisions are made on the natural folds of the eyelids to conceal any post-operative scarring. Excess skin, fat and muscle are removed from the upper or lower eyelids as needed. Fat may be redistributed to improve the contours of the eyelids. If the upper eyelids have excess hanging skin, it will be trimmed to improve the line of sight. Fat may be redistributed in the lower lids to reduce puffiness or under-eye bags. Traditional surgical instruments may be used in combination with lasers to remove the excess skin and tighten the remaining skin.

After the procedure, you will be monitored for a bit and then released to go home. You should rest and sleep for the rest of the day.

Your doctor will clear you to return to work, exercising, socializing and other activities. Most people resume work after about a week or so.
